Air defence systems market’s growing

The latest report by Marketsandmarkets predicts that the Air Defense System Market will grow from $30.57 billion in 2017 to $45.19 billion by 2024, at a CAGR of 5.74% during the forecast period (2017-2024). The changing nature of modern warfare is one of the most important factors driving the demand for air defence systems across the globe. The naval segment is projected to grow at the highest rate during the forecast period. The Asia Pacific air defence system market is projected to grow at the highest CAGR from 2017 to 2024.

Future Fibre Technologies to acquire Maxsec?

Last month, FFT Ltd, a developer and manufacturer of fibre optic intrusion detection security systems, acquired 13.7% of the shares in Maxsec Group Ltd and has now publicly announced that it intends to make an off-market takeover bid for the balance of the shares in the company. “Bringing FFT and Maxsec together will create increased sales growth opportunities for the combined group as common customer requirements deliver both parties access to a larger share of the total security market through a greater suite of solutions.”

The future of open systems

The announcement last week that HID Global will buy Mercury Security, subject to regulatory approval and customary closing conditions, could have very significant implications; Bringing forward integration & total solutions across identity management and access control. The question is will this help deliver open or proprietary systems? The Access Control business has remained largely insulated from the open platform revolution that IP Video Surveillance has greatly benefited from and ONVIF has so far not received the support from the PACS business that is needed to make the business an open one.

The risks of system downtime

Heightened security awareness has meant that more than ever it is crucial for the individual parts of an integrated solution, as well the system as a whole, should be continuously available. IP network based access control, video surveillance, as well as fire, intruder, and perimeter protection are all increasingly reliant on software-based management, so even a well-designed and maintained system is vulnerable to downtime because of a simple server fault. “True integration of electronic security systems can deliver remarkable results provided all the component parts are continuously available.”
