West Midlands to become UK’s first large-scale 5G testbed

A multi-million pound trial of a new high speed connectivity will pave the way for future rollout of 5G and the West Midlands has been chosen as the UK first multi-city 5G test bed. The 5G Test Bed and Trials Programme will develop a large-scale, 5G pilot across the region with hubs in Birmingham, Coventry and Wolverhampton.

West Midlands firms feature in Tech Track countdown

Latest annual research from the Sunday Times Hiscox Tech Track 100 league table features a brace of west midlands businesses. The table ranks Britain’s private technology, media and telecoms companies with fastest-growing sales over the past three years. West midlands-based businesses including PM Connect and Biosite Systems are only a few that rank in the 100 top list.

West Midlands Police utilise drone technology

In West Midlands Police latest bid to curb crime on the roads, a hi-tech drone is being used to zoom in on vehicles and record registration numbers from the sky. The drone was paid for by money seized from criminals, and will also assist them in capturing other criminals, including burglars, thieves and deter anti-social behaviour.

New date for West Midlands Tech Awards announced

Birmingham Live has confirmed a new date for its awards celebrating the West Midlands tech and digital sector. The ceremony will be held on Thursday the 13th of December at the ICC in Birmingham and will celebrate the best technology and digital companies across the West Midlands.
