Cyber Security Wages are set to soar amid a skills shortage

Demand for cyber security roles is set to boom over the next year following several high-profile cyber-attacks, prompting a rise in wages, new research from the recruitment sector’s trade body suggests. However, Kevin Green, the chief executive of the REC, said there are very few people with the skills needed, meaning employers will be competing with each other for the limited talent.

Apache Hadoop reaches 3.0

The Apache Software Foundation has announced version three of the open source software framework for distributed computing. Apache Hadoop 3.0 is the first major release since Hadoop 2 was released in 2013. Apache Hadoop has become known for its ability to run and manage data applications on large hardware clusters in the Big Data ecosystem.

Facebook defends itself against claims its site can damage wellbeing

In a blogpost, Facebook has defended itself against claims that using the site can damage mental health. It said while there was evidence it could negatively affect mood, the way it affected people was determined by how they used it. Facebook’s downsides could be combated by making more use of the site and interacting positively, it said.

Warning: Cyber breaches more likely over the holiday break

Poor employee cyber hygiene may put companies at heightened risk for attack over the holiday break, according to a new report from T-Systems. T-Systems, the corporate IT and cybersecurity arm of Europe’s largest telecom company, Deutsche Telekom, warns companies that security risks abound when companies allow employees to work over Christmas.
