As a number of acquisitions have been announced lately, with more and more companies coming together to become better and stronger, this week in our Fire & Security industry news round-up we cover the acquisitions of HID Global with Arjo Systems SAS and more. Acquisitions, acquisitions, acquisitions

1. HID Global, a worldwide leader in trusted identity solutions, today announced that it has acquired Arjo Systems SAS, a provider of physical and digital identity solutions for secure government ID applications. Read more here(Business Wire, 04/07/2017) 

2. Honeywell has signed a definitive agreement to purchase Nextnine, a privately held provider of security management solutions and technologies for industrial cyber security. Read more here (Security World Market, 06/07/2017)

3.  Titan Alarm Inc., ranked No. 100 on the SDM 100, acquired the accounts and customer bases of Post Security and CCS Systems. The deal with Post Security was closed May 8, and CCS Systems was closed June 30. Read more here. (SDM, 06/07/2017)

2016 Security Global Market share report

“For the sixth year in a row, IHS Markit has named Hikvision the world’s leading supplier of video surveillance products and solutions” Hikvision has market share of 21.4 percent for CCTV and Video Surveillance Equipment worldwide. That is up from 19.5 percent in 2015.  “This recognition is important to us, as it highlights our continued commitment to the market and to our valued customers”.

Integration of Physical Security business and its full potential

Integration between all three branches of the Physical Security business is now one of the main drivers for growth in demand from building operators and owners. However, its full potential is being limited by a lack of initiative from manufacturers and system installers to adopt open communication standards that customers need if they are not to be locked into to one source of supply. Buyers have a strong resistance to accepting this.

Private security industry is booming in South Africa

High walls topped with razor wire, armed patrols in pick-up trucks and signs deterring would-be criminals from targeting properties are commonplace in South Africa. Per capita, the country’s  private security industry is the fourth largest in the world and South Africans spend more than $4bn (£3bn) a year protecting themselves and their homes. The BBC’s Vumani Mkhize has been taking a look at this growing industry.

The distributors and installers have echoed this positive message, confirming that their order books are healthy and their diaries are busy. A traditional charity fund-raising dinner the night before raised £2050 for the SANDS Stillbirth & Neonatal Charity which operates throughout the UK, supporting anyone affected by the death of a baby, working to improve the care bereaved parents receive, and promoting research to reduce the loss of babies’ lives.
