Data Center Lead Mechanical Engineer

Who takes responsibility when a mechanical package has to work first time?

On a data centre, there is no soft launch. The cooling either holds on day one or it does not, which is why the mechanical lead on these projects carries more weight than the title usually suggests. Our client is hiring a Lead Mechanical Engineer to own mechanical work packages across several data centre projects at once, and to stay with them from concept through to commissioning.

Our client is an international engineering and design consultancy whose global Mission Critical Facilities team designs for colocation providers, internet service providers and telecoms companies. The team spans electrical, mechanical and construction engineering.

The package you would own

Design and documentation. Setting the scope, design and management objectives for your work packages, and delivering complete project documentation with information flow properly controlled.

Procurement. Writing technical specifications and tender documentation, pre-qualifying contractors, and evaluating tender returns.

Cost and risk. Supporting cost preparation and carrying out risk assessments for work in live environments.

Quality. Representing the client at factory acceptance tests and through commissioning.

Communication. Keeping stakeholders clear on where each package stands.

What you need

• A bachelor's or master's degree in mechanical engineering
• Around ten years of relevant mechanical design experience
• Proven data centre design experience in mission critical or high availability environments
• A firm grasp of redundancy principles, operational constraints and reliability driven design
• Strong working knowledge of design and construction standards and compliance requirements
• Experience taking multidisciplinary projects through detailed design
• Comfort making decisions in an international project environment

The package on offer

€65,000 to €95,000 base salary depending on experience, with pension, holiday allowance and profit share on top, including an 18.3% employer pension contribution, a 2.15% personal budget and annual profit sharing. Twenty-eight holiday days with the option to buy up to 16.5 more, hybrid working with flexible hours, a working from home allowance, an NS Business Card and a higher allowance for commuting by bike or on foot.
