Senior Project Manager

Frankfurt am Main, Germany

Plenty of data centre project manager roles want someone to keep the schedule updated. How often does one hand you the whole build?

This Senior Project Manager role covers the full fibre and telecoms infrastructure package for a hyperscale data centre build in Frankfurt, from design receipt through to handover. Our client is a European digital infrastructure and network services group delivering structured cabling and passive infrastructure for major hyperscale operators across the UK and Europe, and they need their project manager in place for the start of pre-construction.

The programme runs in three phases: five weeks of pre-construction, largely remote; fourteen weeks of construction, based on site in Frankfurt; and three weeks of handover, also on site. They are moving quickly, so they are looking for someone available now or with 30 days' notice, and they will consider a contractor to secure the right person faster.

What the role involves
  • Full project ownership, from receipt of design through execution, delivery and handover
  • Building the bill of materials against the client's requirements and specification
  • Keeping project documentation and the central work schedule accurate and on track
  • Monitoring and controlling site operations so the build meets client expectations and fixed dates
  • Tracking and managing contemplated change notices and change orders
  • Arranging equipment deliveries to site and keeping stock properly accounted for
  • Acting as the link between departments and communicating project information clearly to the site teams
  • Reviewing operational performance and feeding improvements back into the delivery plan
  • Occasional hands-on work where the job calls for it

What you need
  • A track record delivering fibre and telecoms infrastructure packages inside live data centre builds
  • Delivery experience on projects for a major hyperscale operator
  • Working knowledge of structured cabling systems, including Cat5e, Cat6 and Cat6a copper and OM3, OM4, OM5, OS1 and OS2 fibre
  • Strong Primavera P6 scheduling, earned value management and BIM 360
  • Confident with Excel, Word and Visio
  • Able to be on site in Frankfurt through the construction and handover phases
  • Available immediately, or on a notice period of 30 days or less

Useful, not essential
  • CAD experience
  • German language, though the project runs in English

Why this role
This is a defined hyperscale build with a clear start, a clear end and a client who knows what good delivery looks like, which is a rarer combination than it should be. The phased structure also means the pre-construction work is genuinely remote rather than remote in name only, and the site time is bounded to seventeen weeks in Frankfurt rather than an open-ended relocation.
