Senior Mechanical Engineer

Dublin, County Dublin, Ireland

€55000 - €75000 per annum

Senior Mechanical Engineer – Building Services / MEP

Role Overview
This is a permanent position based in Dublin with a highly regarded multidisciplinary building services consultancy.
The role focuses on base-build mechanical systems for complex, regulated facilities rather than process-specific machinery.
You will lead the design of HVAC, ventilation, and utilities infrastructure for industrial, pharmaceutical, and commercial buildings.
While this is a senior-remit position, the hiring team is also open to speaking with strong mechanical engineers who have the potential and experience to step up into a senior role.

About You
  • Experience: Approximately 5–7 years of experience in mechanical building services/MEP design, ideally within a consultancy environment.
  • Education: Honours Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related discipline. Chartered status is an advantage but not essential.
  • Sector Exposure: Experience in industrial, commercial, or energy projects. Exposure to life sciences, laboratories, or food and beverage facilities is highly desirable.
  • Technical Knowledge: Proven expertise in HVAC and industrial utilities. An understanding of ATEX directives for hazardous environments is a significant plus.
  • Standards: Familiarity with CIBSE, ASHRAE, BS, IS, and EN standards.
  • Software Proficiency: Experience using Navisworks, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office.
  • Location: Must be based in Ireland. While the role is Dublin-based, the team is open to discussing flexible arrangements for candidates living outside the capital.
Your Day-to-Day Activities
  • Design Leadership: Lead mechanical building services design from initial concept through to completion and client handover.
  • Technical Ownership: Specify HVAC, heating, cooling, and life safety systems for regulated environments like cleanrooms and manufacturing plants.
  • Project Coordination: Liaise with architectural, structural, and process engineering teams to ensure seamless project integration.
  • Documentation: Prepare detailed mechanical tender packages, technical reports, and recommendations.
  • Site Engagement: Conduct site visits, perform installation quality checks, and resolve technical queries during construction.
  • Mentorship: Support and guide junior and intermediate engineers, ensuring QA standards are maintained across all deliverables.
  • Client Management: Represent the company in multidisciplinary design meetings and build strong, lasting client relationships.
What’s On Offer
  • Salary: €55,000 – €75,000 per annum (depending on experience).
  • Work-Life Balance: Hybrid working (3 days in the Dublin office) and a 9-day fortnight (every second Friday off).
  • Financial Benefits: Pension scheme, travel tax saver, bike-to-work scheme, and referral bonuses.
  • Health & Wellbeing: Subsidised health insurance allowance, gym membership support, and an active social committee (golf, climbing, football).
  • Professional Growth: Full support toward Chartership, paid professional membership fees, and ongoing technical training.
Technical Focus: Regulated Facilities
In this role, you will design infrastructure for environments where air quality and temperature control are critical to the facility's operation.

Core Systems Managed:
  • Industrial HVAC: Large-scale air handling and climate control for manufacturing.
  • Cleanroom Design: Maintaining specific pressure differentials and ISO-rated air purity.
  • Hazardous Areas: Designing mechanical systems compliant with ATEX requirements.
  • Utilities Infrastructure: Compressed air, vacuum systems, and chilled water loops.
