Amazon Key will unlock your front door

Amazon it’s taking the obvious next step to please their customers and introducing a service that will allow Amazon couriers to open your front door and put your package safely inside your home. The service is called Amazon Key, and it relies on a Amazon’s new Cloud Cam and compatible smart lock. When a courier arrives with a package for in-home delivery, they scan the barcode, sending a request to Amazon’s cloud. Will Prime customers trust Amazon to monitor their homes around the clock, and to know when it’s okay to unlock their doors for a stranger?

IoT movement is getting stronger

IoT is revolutionising the competitive landscape by transforming everyday business practices and opening new windows of opportunity. According to the latest research by IHS Markit, the number of connected Internet of Things (IoT) devices worldwide will jump 12% on average annually, from nearly 27 billion in 2017 to 125 billion in 2030. Global data transmissions are expected to increase from 20 to 25% annually to 50% per year, on average, in the next 15 years. “The emerging IoT movement is impacting virtually all stages of industry and nearly all market areas — from raw materials to production to distribution and even the consumption of final goods”.

Cloud VPN market’s impressive growth

Marketsandmarkets has published a report on the Cloud VPN market which predicts that the market will grow from $3.25 Billion in 2017 to $8.78 Billion by 2022, at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 22.0%. The growing adoption of it is seen through a high demand for virtual appliances or technologies in the field of networking, application delivery, and security products. Also, an increasing demand for cloud-based solutions is expected to drive the cloud VPN market over the next 5 years. The remote access connectivity type enables an individual user, located remotely, to connect to the enterprise network using personal devices, such as laptops, smartphones, or tablets.

FIA’s qualification now open for booking

Bookings are now open for the Fire Industry Association’s (FIA’s) fire detection and alarm qualifications. Launched over the summer the course equips students in designing, installing, maintaining, and commissioning fire detection and alarm equipment. The courses are equivalent to an A-Level and will result in a certificate upon completion. The FIA developed the qualifications in a bid to formalise the career path of a fire alarm engineer and to combat the severe and growing skills crisis in the sector. Courses, which comprise four units, can be undertaken in a number of locations across the UK.

Fire extinguisher servicing scheme now includes asbestos awareness

BAFE has launched the revised SP101 scheme, which seeks to recalibrate the definition of competence in the context of fire extinguisher services and introduces requirements for training in asbestos awareness and health and safety It also updates and strengthens the role of the fire extinguisher technician. Live since 1 October, The SP101 – ‘Competency of portable fire extinguisher organisations and technicians’ – scheme has introduced additional technical competence to the revised sections of BS 5306, relating to fire extinguishing installations and equipment on premises.
