Oracle proposes changes to Java release cycle

Oracle announced on Wednesday that they will be proposing to move to an every-six-months release cycle for Java SE and the JDK, beginning with the release of Java 9. The plan would be to have a time-based major release, every six months starting in March 2018. Major releases could include any type of new feature: however, the new feature will not be merged until it’s nearly complete, ensuring that the release in development is feature-complete at all times.

Huawei overtakes Apple as the world’s second-biggest smartphone maker

The technology giant Apple has been overtaken by the Chinese smartphone giant Huawei as the world’s second-biggest smartphone maker by sales. Huawei’s market shares surpassed Apple’s in June and July, according to figures from Counterpoint Research. While the dip is likely to be temporary, with Apple announcement of a new range of iPhones next week likely to invigorate sales, breaking the duopoly enjoyed by Samsung and Apple that has existed for five years is a landmark moment.

143 million people hit by massive Equifax data breach

About 143 million US customers of the credit report giant Equifax may have had their personal information compromised in a cyber security breach. Cyber criminals accessed data such as Social Security numbers, birth dates and addresses with some UK and Canadian customers also being affected. Experts report the breach to be one of the largest ever reported in the US and could have a significant impact on any Americans affected by it.

Apple released iOS 11 beta 10 to developers

Apple is pushing the limits of its beta program as the company just released the tenth beta version of iOS 11. If you have a developer account and want to try out the next version of iOS, you can download the new beta version now. iOS 11 is the next major release of the operating system for the iPhone and iPad and Apple first unveiled iOS 11 at its WWDC event in June. Developers and early adopters have been able to try out the new version for three months.
