Chancellor of the exchequer Phillip Hammond champions UK FinTech

Speaking at HM government’s inaugural International FinTech conference on Wednesday, Phillip Hammond declared that he wants the UK to remain at the forefront of the FinTech revolution post-Brexit. The Chancellor of the exchequer called on innovators, investors and regulators to help him realise that vision by continuing to attract skilled workers from overseas. With many UK tech entrepreneurs concerned about their access to overseas talent in a post-Brexit reality, Hammond said it was important for the country to continue to attract “the brightest and best from around the world”. He also highlighted the need to invest in the ‘skills of the future’ and other emerging sectors such as AI, BioTech and every other area in which the UK has the potential to be a leading force.

Red Hat releases Ansible 2.3 

Red Hat has announced the general availability of Ansible 2.3, the updated version of the company’s agentless open-source IT automation framework. The update includes performance enhancements and advanced networking capabilities, as well as added features that aim to cater to network operator needs. According to the director of engineering at Red Hat, Tim Cramer, this new release addresses the challenges from a network operator’s perspective, giving solutions without having to change what they do on a day-to-day basis. Ansible 2.3 also comes with broader support for Microsoft Windows, giving teams new and enhanced modules that make automating Windows with Ansible easy.

Men more likely to use a robot doctor or AI in health care than women

Research by PwC has found that nearly have of men in the UK would be willing to try technology such as AI that can answer medical questions or a robot that could perform minor surgery, compared to just under a third of women. Young people in the UK are also found to be more willing to using health technology along with men and PwC healthcare partner Brian Pomering declares “the younger the demographic group, the more likely they are to see new health technologies in a positive light. Well over half of 18-24-year-olds would be willing to engage with AI and robotics to take care of some of their health.”
