Amazon launches UK job training platform and placement program

Amazon recently announced the launch of AWS re: Start a training and job placement program to help young adults and veterans in the UK. In partnership with The Prince’s Trust and the UK ministry, the program aims to help around 1000 people improve their technical skills and find IT jobs, irrespective of their previous experience. Participants will learn how to architect, design and develop cloud-based applications using AWS.

Snapchat chooses the UK to house its non-US activity

Snap, the company behind Snapchat have announced that they have chosen the UK as its hub for non-US activity. This is another boost for post-Brexit UK, following the announcement from Apple opening its new HQ in London. A representative from Snap declared that “the UK’s strong creative industries make this a great place to build a global business.”

Report announces Agile and DevOps work better together than alone

A report from CA Technologies revealed that businesses have experienced better customer satisfaction and brand loyalty when mixing Agile with DevOps. The report also discovered that 75% of respondents reported improved employee recruitment and retention when using both agile and DevOps. With businesses seeing a 45% increase in employee productivity and 78% increase in customer experience. General Manager for agile management at CA stated that “when agile and DevOps are practised together the benefits are even better”.

Stackshare announces the top 50 developer tools of 2016

Stackshare a company that aims to help developers find the best tools has released its data of the top tools of 2016. In order to bring the list together, the company aggregated usage from 40k + tech stacks, millions of unique visits and thousands of developer comments, reviews and votes. The data revealed that 2016 was a big year for front-end development, with more than half of the top 10 application and data tools being at the front end. JavaScript came out on top as the most popular developer tool of 2016, with Stackshare advising developers to brush up on their JavaScript for 2017 along with Angular 2 or React.
