The Opportunity: We are seeking an experienced Software Asset Management (SAM) Analyst to join our client. This is a vital role responsible for optimising the software licensing, ensuring compliance, and identifying cost-saving opportunities across the global software estate. You will play a key part in managing our software assets from procurement through to retirement, leveraging data and analysis to drive strategic decisions.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Software Inventory & Discovery: Maintain an accurate and up-to-date inventory of all software assets, utilising various discovery tools, purchase records, and deployment data.
  • License Management: Track and manage software licenses, entitlements, and contracts across multiple vendors (e.g., Microsoft, Adobe, Oracle, Salesforce, AWS, Google Cloud).
  • Compliance & Risk Mitigation: Conduct regular license reconciliation and audits to ensure compliance with software vendor terms and conditions, identifying and mitigating potential audit risks.
  • Cost Optimisation: Analyse software usage patterns, identify underutilized licenses, and recommend strategies for cost reduction, including license harvesting, true-ups, and alternative licensing models.
  • Data Analysis & Reporting: Generate comprehensive SAM reports and dashboards, providing insights into license consumption, compliance status, and cost savings to stakeholders.
  • Vendor Management Support: Assist with vendor negotiations, contract renewals, and licensing discussions by providing accurate data and analysis.
  • Process Improvement: Contribute to the development, documentation, and continuous improvement of SAM policies, processes, and procedures.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with IT operations, procurement, finance, legal, and business units to support their software needs and ensure SAM best practices are followed.
  • Software Lifecycle Management: Support the entire software lifecycle from request to procurement, deployment, usage monitoring, and eventual retirement.
  • Tooling: Utilise and contribute to the effective operation of SAM tools (e.g., ServiceNow SAM Pro, Flexera, Snow Software, Aspera) and other related systems.
Skills & Qualifications:
  • Essential:
    • 3+ years of proven experience in a dedicated Software Asset Management (SAM) role.
    • Solid understanding of software licensing models for major vendors (e.g., Microsoft, Adobe, SaaS providers, cloud services).
    • Proficiency with at least one industry-standard SAM tool (e.g., ServiceNow SAM Pro, Flexera One, Snow Software, Aspera SmartTrack).
    • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data, identify trends, and draw actionable conclusions.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and influence stakeholders remotely.
    • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple priorities effectively.
    • Self-motivated and able to work independently in a remote environment, demonstrating strong time management and self-discipline.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Excel (advanced functions, pivot tables).
    • Experience with ticketing systems and IT Service Management (ITSM) processes.
    • Fluency in English, both written and verbal.
  • Highly Desirable:
    • SAM certifications (e.g., IAITAM CSAM, ITIL, PRINCE2).
    • Experience with cloud licensing models (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform).
    • Knowledge of scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Python) for data automation.
    • Experience with procurement systems and processes.
    • Familiarity with contract management principles.
    • Experience in a global or multi-national organisation.
    • Ability to work effectively across different time zones when required.
