Principal Mechanical Engineer

Mechanical Building Services | MEP Consultancy | HVAC Design | Principal Engineer Jobs

What would it mean to be the person clients trust to lead their most complex building services projects — while shaping the future of a high-performing engineering team in one of the UK's most active construction markets?
Our client is a respected engineering consultancy with deep roots in Manchester and a project portfolio spanning Healthcare, Commercial, Residential, Science & Research
and Mission Critical sectors. They're hiring a Principal Mechanical Engineer — carrying greater strategic influence over both projects and people.

What the role involves:
 Serving as the primary client contact on large, complex schemes — building lasting relationships and identifying future opportunities
 Owning projects end-to-end, from defining the brief through to profitable, high-quality delivery
 Leading and coordinating multidisciplinary teams, delegating effectively and upholding technical standards throughout
 Contributing to business development activity, including bid preparation and promoting the full consultancy offering
 Playing an active role in building and developing a strong local team in Manchester

What they're looking for:
 Extensive mechanical engineering consultancy experience with a strong grasp of HVAC, heating and ventilation systems
 Confident using Revit and/or AutoCAD in a design delivery context
 Skilled at managing both client relationships and internal project teams across disciplines
 Solid understanding of relevant British Standards
 An appreciation of how complementary specialisms — acoustics, fire engineering, computational modelling — interact with mechanical design

What's on offer:
 9-day fortnight working pattern
 Up to 30 days annual leave
 Private medical cover
 EV salary sacrifice scheme stock options
 Flexible, inclusive culture with strong professional development support

A genuine leadership role — not just in title, but in practice.
