Data Centre Site Manager - 9 Month Contract

When did you last get nine months on one site without chasing the next one?

That is the practical appeal here. A single data centre project in Linz, a defined nine-month run, and a client who would rather bring in a contractor now than wait out somebody's notice period.

Our client is a European digital infrastructure and network services group whose Data Centre Services division delivers structured cabling and passive infrastructure on major projects across mainland Europe. They need a site manager who can take the site as it is, get a grip on it in the first fortnight, and keep it running to programme for the rest of the contract.

This is a running-the-site job. You hold the documentation and the tracking, brief the engineers each morning, control the risks in front of you, manage what arrives on site and what is still coming, and keep the project managers properly informed rather than optimistically informed. When the situation calls for it, you pick up a tool.

What you would be responsible for

• Project documentation and work tracking on site
• Toolbox talks and daily briefing of the engineers
• Site risk assessment and the controls that follow from it
• Holding operations to customer expectations and programme dates
• Coordinating between departments so delivery keeps moving
• Reporting progress and problems back to the project managers
• Tracking and managing change notices and change orders
• Equipment deliveries, stock management and accountability
• Reviewing how the site is performing and proposing improvements
• Occasional hands-on support

What you need

• A proven track record running data centre sites, typically built over five years or more
• Cat5e, Cat6 and Cat6a copper cabling knowledge
• OM3, OM4, OM5, OS1 and OS2 fibre knowledge
• Confident with Excel, Word and Visio
• Strong written and verbal communication, since you are the bridge between site and office
• Comfortable working to fixed programme dates on a site where conditions change daily
• Available to be based in Linz for the contract, with travel to client sites elsewhere in mainland Europe
• The right to work in Austria, or willingness to work through the client's assignment arrangements
