I am seeking an experienced Production, Process and Quality Engineer to join them at their Brand-New Centre of Excellence for Access Control Systems in Manchester.

Will consider Process, Production and Quality Engineers from a variety of 'high value' Electronic backgrounds as long as you are extremely familiar with manufacturing production processes such as PLASTIC INJECTION MOULDING etc.

  • Company car or car allowance

About the role:

You will be based from my client's Manchester Centre of Excellence for Access Control Systems, this role will require frequent UK travel to visit with Suppliers and Supplier Factory Network abroad primarily in the Far East, and Eastern Europe, as well as their Group HQ in Italy.

The main function of this role is to establish the best production process and logistic flows across suppliers optimising the cost of finished goods and to minimise lead times in line with the capabilities of the group suppliers, with the help of the Purchasing Director of the group.

This role will be instrumental in the activity of my clients Suppliers during production set-up as well as in-life quality control of products manufactured in their supplier factory network.

Finally, this role you will be responsible for creating efficiencies in product cost and manufacturing across the group portfolio of products, rationalising SKU's and suppliers, driving cost and time saving, and allowing the company to maximise its inventory holding of core products.

Skills required for this role:

  • Excellent knowledge of assembly processes and electronic product tests
  • Good knowledge of plastic moulding processes
  • Good knowledge of metal working processes, painting
  • Excellent knowledge of world-class manufacturing techniques including Six Sigma, 5S, Kaizen, Kanban, SQA, PQA, and Design Assurance.

  • Analyse the production flows of the products and allocate the production of semi-finished products in order to reduce the lead times and optimising overall costs in accordance with the technical capacities of the suppliers.
  • Analyse the incoming intercepted non-conformities from the Testing Department (RC) or from market reports and define with the Supplier the Corrective Actions to avoid their repetition [handling of non-conformity]; verify that the corrective actions have been carried out and the results.
  • Establish any changes to functional tests with R&D.
  • Establish the start-up of new production at the suppliers, verifying that the production processes specification defined with R&D for the manufacture and testing of the products are respected (note: start-up of production is also the transfer from one supplier to others supplier or a new product start-up production] with lean 5S methods and Kaizen plans.
  • Implement verification plans at the supplier's premises and realise the control spec specification,
  • Assist R&D in carrying out testing and assembly procedures in accordance with suppliers' capabilities (design for manufacture).
  • Periodically verify, in line with the established control programmes, that the production processes of the Suppliers maintain the agreed requirements and do not drift [process audit].
  • Implement and/or update, when necessary, the control specifications, in accordance with R&D requirements, for the verification of components made by Suppliers [control specifications] that the warehouse will use during the incoming controls.
  • Verify the material returned by the Suppliers as non-compliant (material delivered to the Supplier in outsourcing or sales) and define its management.
  • Verify, if necessary, the stock material before its shipment to the Supplier for its use in production.
  • Analyse the non-conformities opened by the Supplier for non-compliant material supplied by outsourcing or sales account.
  • Analyse with R&D areas of SKU rationalise across group products, for example of Enclosure and PSU's, to use common child part components where practical to build efficiency and leverage cost reduction.
  • On metalwork & fabrication ensure that my client is placing volume with the correct suppliers to maintain quality, reduce lead-times, and drive cost reductions.
  • You will also have to work in close contact with the various company functions: with Acceptance Control to deepen the methods of testing of products, to be able to provide competent support to the Supplier during production and punctually report on the problems encountered in production; with R&D to get to know the main characteristics of the components, products and processes which will then have to be verified.
  • With PRODUCTION - get to know in detail the management of production, the implementation of modifications of the product in production; with PURCHASING as cost-setting support.
  • Analyse the production flows of the products and allocate the production of semi-finished products in order to reduce the lead times and optimising overall costs in accordance with the technical capacities of the suppliers.
