Report finds UK tech is growing faster than the rest of the economy

According to a report by Tech Nation the digital tech sector in the UK is booming, with high employment and new tech hubs popping up across the nation. The new findings show that UK’s digital tech sector grew 2.6 times quicker than the rest of the economy between 2016 – 2017, with the industry, now being worth nearly £184bn.

Facebook suspends 200 apps in case of misuse of people’s data

Following the Cambridge Analytica scandal this year Facebook is currently auditing apps that are plugged into its platform. It has suspended 200 apps on its platform and set about to investigate thousands of others which might have misused people’s data. It is an extreme and labour-intensive process but one that Facebook believes is necessary to try and win back public trust.

Microsoft announces new Xbox controller for players with disabilities

Microsoft has announced the release of its Xbox Adaptive Controller designed for people with disabilities. The device has two large programmable buttons and 19 jacks that can be connected to a range of joysticks, buttons and switches to make it easier for a wider range of people to play games on Xbox One and Windows 10 PCs.

App development tool provider Fuse joins open source community

Fuse is joining the open-source world with the release of Fuse Open, a cross-platform mobile app development tool suite that supports Android and iOS applications. The new release aims to reduce development times and resources and all tooling and libraries on the platform are now available as free.

Report finds closing tech’s gender gap will take decades

A Breakingviews calculator shows that closing the gender pay gap will take up to 15 years. Reuters reports that less than one-fifth of computer and information science majors are female, according to statistics from the National Centre for Women & Information Technology and companies embed the problem by failing to promote women or retain them.
