 A General Practitioner is responsible for providing medical services to patients within a medical practice. These medical services as a GP include examination, investigation, diagnosis treatment and referral of patients.  

Working as a GP requires daily interaction with patients of all ages and the knowledge of a broad range of illnesses is highly beneficial. General Practitioners also help to develop and initiate new systems of working within a medical practice, whilst encouraging and promoting the development of clinical governance.  

General Practitioners work shifts either on a locum GP or residential basis at medical practices and out of hours surgeries and in Urgent and Primary care.  

Earnings for General Practitioners vary depending on their contract of work; salaried GP’s can earn from £57,000 up to £110,000, whereas Locum GP’s and GP’s that work on a contractual basis can earn up to £90 per hour.
